INTRODUCTION

The institute of family that is based upon the sanctity of marriage has long been the integral part of the building blocks of a civilized family. It is the family that provides us with the relations that give us support, affection and guidance all through our lives especially in our society Family life is upheld and influenced by religion, literature, law, custom and a variety of external social pressures. Religious teaching provides an ideal picture of family relationships. Rights and duties of family members have been set out in laws and customs. Social status, material resources and means of livelihood influence household size and structure, the ability of the family to perform its basic functions and relations both among its members and between them and other kinsfolk. Families do not just provide us with our immediate relations but also with a wide range of other relationships and relatives commonly known as kinsmen or kinsfolk. Kinsmen, at all levels of society could be used as contacts, intermediaries or perhaps to improve prospects. But, again, such considerations had to be made carefully - an error in judgment could have long-term effects if the kinsmen failed to live up to expectations. Kinsmen are often used for finding suitable marriage partners and to act as intermediaries in bringing matches about. Kinsman could also be helpful in terms of borrowing money, equipment, animals and services.
Thus family provides us with the reality of human connections.
