ntire past week. That week was filled with beyond excessive use of drugs and alcohol and I noticed it then even before I saw it all written on paper. However, I also have to take into account that it was not really a typical week. It was the beginning of school and no one had much homework to do yet. Everyone was excited to see each other again and that could have played a role in how often I went out and drank. Yet I did notice that whenever my friends and I all got together, drinking and drugs were present. Not only were they present, but on some of the nights we revolved our day or night around them. My house had a cocktail party on Saturday evening and we spent almost the entire day in preparation. I had to talk to all of the neighbors and cleaning the house and backyard took forever. We spent a lot of time preparing to drink. On Monday September 2 I was convinced that I was not going to drink that night yet I somehow ended up at the bar later that night. At the bar I saw a few of my friends who had been drinking all day long, claiming they had to take the day off and hang out because it was Labor Day. When they said that, my girlfriends and I thought they had made a good point and we complained about the fact that Ohio Wesleyan does not cancel classes for any holiday. Realistically however, Labor Day is a holiday to our country but not really to my generation. I can practically guarantee that more than half of people my age do not even know the history and reason behind Labor Day. Yet we were still angry that we could not have the day off and be able to hang out and party with our friends. Another thing I noticed was how a beautiful and sunny day is used as a justification for people’s actions. On Tuesday September 3 my friends started playing drinking games in the early afternoon. I went over to RH’s house and also started drinking. I was in agreement that it was necessary to spend a day like that outside enjoying the weather....
