Students, feeling they have something to prove to themselves and their parents, are dangerously enthusiastic in attempting to change society too quickly and oftentimes, in the wrong way. Police studies have shown that civil disorder is more common on weekends and after sunset. A surplus of cash, free time, and alcohol contribute to greater violence on weekends because a calm rock concert or festival can quickly escalate into a large-scale riot. Lack of light can allow criminals to do what they do with a much less chance of being seen. Vandalizing stores or harassing police officers is much easier during nighttime hours and illegal activities are more common at these times. If a member of the public is arrested by police, there is a great chance that crowds may form or there will be an increase in police brutality.
