ctural factors that impact on a young person’s experience (Griffin, 1993, p.31). Using this approach, young people experiencing difficulty within educational settings are not presented as inadequate and deficient sources of various social problems or social inequalities. According to Griffin (1993, p. 31) they are instead seen as the originators of collective cultural resistances against oppressive class, race and gender based conditions of structural subordination. The Youth Affairs Network Queensland (YANQ) (2004, p.12) likewise uses a social reproduction approach to critique the ETRFA White Paper when it outlines the need for an examination of structural predicates of “disruptive behaviour”. YANQ’s (2004, p.12) social reproduction analysis of the White Paper is further seen in their push for mainstream institutions to increase the inclusion of youth who are deemed to have disengaged from mainstream educational settings, through addressing structural factors.
