It is an action, unlike prejudice which comes from incorrect information, or even an assumption that is not correct at all. Racism is a combination of both prejudice and discrimination.
Goldberg argues that “Racism has proved adaptable to a wide range of theoretical frameworks and practical expressions. Modes of analyzing racism are intertwined in complex and subtle ways with these changing fashions of racist expressions. Racist expression has transformed in some cases in reaction to the onslaught of critical analysis, yet in other instances has persisted despite critical attack. The prevailing critical presupposition of the social scientific attack on racism from its emergence in the 1930's is that racism is unvarying in its nature; it is essentially the same attitude complex expressed in differing social conditions.” (1990 : ix) Once again, racism is focused on blacks and jews, which claims that they are pollutants of the nation-state. Racism does not only exist against blacks and jews, but also against the Japanese auto workers in the movie Gung Ho. When the Japanese management team came into the American car factory, the American workers did not appreciate how efficient the management was. They had prejudice attitudes, and developed discriminatory behaviors towards the Japanese. When the American workers learned that racism was unnecessary, they were able to settle their differences and produce more automobiles than ever before with American production techniques.
