I was in a public school and many of the kids if not all were from low income families. I just did not understand how they could get so bad off. It was not long after being in school with the low income children that I became one. My mother and father separated and my father took our whole savings. I went from well off to almost starving. My mother had to work three jobs to feed us and my older sister who was only 11 at the time had to practically raise me and my younger sister.
All of this had a direct affect on me as a person. My personality changed tremendously through the years. The once quiet child that I was began to melt away and underneath was a tougher skin. I felt like the mythological phoenix rising from the ashes. After my family fought to gain our financial status back, I learned to sacrifice some of my beliefs and morals. Beliefs and morals don’t pay the bills or put food on the table. After my father left with all of our savings my sisters and I had to help my mother pay the bills.
