The Part II (COPPOLA, 1974) is different from very beginning and it is obvious that two stories will be developed simultaneously. It brings the audience back to Corleone, Sicily, where young Vito’s father, mother and brother were killed by local Don. He escapes to USA to save himself. The story of young Vito fluently fades to story of Michael and opposite. The way how it is edited, offers us permanent comparision between two men. Michael’s story begins in Nevada, where he had moved the family in part one. The sequence is similar to the opening one in Godfather I. Loud celebration outside the house is again contrasting with the dark office in the house, where Michael has to accept his business visits. In the night somebody tries to kill Michael in his bedroom and it is obvious that he was betrayed again by somebody very close to him. Fading in the Vito’s tale, we see the poor quarter where he lived, his wife and first son. Vito meets Clemenza, which is the birth of future family business. After visit of Miami and New York, Michael travels to Cuba, Havana, to set up new family investments. His attempt, to gain enough money, to be able to candidate on the post of USA president, is however unsuccessful. He orders death of Hyman Roth and he emerges, as audience already knows, that he was betrayed by his brother Fredo. When he arrives home, he finds out that Key had a miscarriage. Very strong fade into Vito’s tale follows. Young Vito is asked by Don Fannuci to pay him money, gained on robberies. He offers his fellows to solve it for himself and makes his ...
