hers, in my opinion it is because they can’t control their own life. Some people may blame their actions due to intoxication or stress but that is all an excuse. “Drinking and stress do not cause abuse, they are an excuse” (Saint Martha’s Hall). In the end all the violent acts are extremely serious but the two most common violent acts against women are rape and domestic abuse (Population Report).
Rape is a very serious issue, if comparing it to World War II, there are more women injured in 2000 by being raped than there were Marines hurt in that war (fact sheet). That statistic is huge and only keeps growing as the years pass. In fact between the years of 1980 and 1990 the rate of rape rose four times as fast as the total crime rate raised in the United States (Campaign for Nonviolence). That is not counting all the victims that did not report the crime to the police. After all not all women report it because they are afraid, in denial, or think that people will think less of them. Realistically speaking, some believe that three to six times the number of reported rapes is the real number of people who have been raped (National Organization for Women). The most recent statistics available on line state that every two to three minutes a woman is raped (Saint Martha’s Hall). Putting it in perspective, by the time you have read the end of this sentence someone has been raped, and many more will be before you finish this essay. Now it makes it much clearer why some females walk with their keys as weapons while alone in a parking lot. There is a problem with that though: most people raped are raped by someone they know. If truth be told eighty-five percent of people that are raped and report it actually knew who the person was that raped them (Violence against Women). So maybe instead of being scared in the dark alley women should pay more attention at a party filled with people they know...
