The article “Eugene G. White broke barriers, made history,” is about an African American male, Eugene G. White, who “felt the sting of racism” growing up as a child in the 1950’s but, it did not stand in the way of his determination to succeed in life. Born and raised in Lee County, Alabama, White grew up in poverty and he was faced with the problems of segregation. Although his mother helped him through the worst times, White saw that the only way to overcome his oppression was through education and hard work. Through his hard work and excellence in education he: became the first male in his family to graduate, earned a basketball scholarship to Attend Alabama A&M University and, was the first black high school principal at Fort Wayne Community Schools and at North Central High School. Today, White is the superintendent of Washington Township Schools.
Eugene’s life could have had a different outcome if he would have let racism and oppression stand in his way....
