MDMA, short for the chemical name 3, 4 Methylene-dioxy-n-methamphetamine is formed by a complex laboratory process. The components of MDMA are natural substances, yet they do not occur naturally. The main component can be extracted from the essential oils of a sassafras tree. MDMA is normally sold in tablet form and cost anywhere between fifteen to twenty-five dollars. Users normally take the tablet by mouth, but there are individuals who try to snort the substance for faster effects. MDMA affects the brain by altering the activity of the neurotransmitters, causing nerves cells in different regions of the brain to become incommunicable. MDMA is illegal in the United States and most other countries. MDMA acts as both a stimulant and hallucinogen, producing an energizing effect. Included in this feeling is distortion of time and perception also gives your body enhanced enjoyment from tactile experiences. A hug or a kiss may seem explosive rather then normal. MDMA is known as Ecstasy on the streets. Ecstasy has also been called X, XTC, E, Adam or Doves. Ecstasy became a popular street drug in the early 80’s and is still damaging our streets today. Though it seems Ecstasy is not as popular as Cocaine, Marijuana, or LSD it is just as serious. The reason it seems to have slipped under radar is because it is not as widely spread as other drugs. For example marijuana is used by people of all ages in all location. Ecstasy seems to stay in the younger crowds and used mainly at clubs, and underground parties known as raves. The lights and the noise help the drug to succeed in its enjoyment level.
MDMA was around long before people started to abuse the drug. Formed in 1913 by a German company named Merck, MDMA was developed in hopes of becoming an appetite suppressant.
