The American Museum of Natural History was visually a lot more interesting than the other museum I visited. The exhibits were extremely very nicely detailed, from everything to the actual models themselves to the sounds playing in the background in the volcanoes exhibit and in the oceans exhibit. These were the two exhibits that fascinated me the most of all of them. I felt I could relate more to these two in particular because I read about them for class and tests and I had more background knowledge in these subjects.
In the exhibit about the Earth I observed the volcanoes exhibit. The rocks that came from volcanoes caught my eye. My favorite was “Obsidian”- which is a volcanic bomb. As I walked around I saw some pictures of the Earth’s interior- the layers- the crusts, the cores. The pictures of earthquakes called “the destructive power of earthquakes” which contained actual shots of the earthquakes that occurred in places such as San Francisco and Mexico City. It was amazing to see that the Earth has tectonic plates that do this kind of damage. I also recalled seeing rocks that looked like pellets from volcanoes under the sea. It said that they were magna that cooled off in the water once they erupted- very nice to actually touch it.
Further on in my trip to the museum I visited the exhibit on the oceans and ocean life. The first thing that caught my attention when I entered was the enormous “Blue Whale” that hung from the ceiling in the middle of the room. On the caption for this whale it showed pictures of the evolution of the whale. It started with pictures of a whale 47 million years ago and, 37 million years ago, and current. It was interesting looking at these pictures and seeing how these magnificent animals evolved. Lastly, the animal that made my trip worth coming to see was the “Giant Squid” and the “Sperm Whale.” I had no idea that this “Giant Squid” existed. I only saw it on an old movie I be...
