Bipolar disorder or Manic depression is a very serious psychological disorder in the brain. What is the main cause of the disorder? What are the signs and symptoms of the disorder? What treatments or drugs can they take to help control the symptoms? How dose being diagnosed effect peoples everyday lives.
Bipolar disorder also known as manic depression is a mental illness that causes a person’s moods to swing from very happy and energized to extremely sad and low. This mood disorder affects millions of Americans every yea, many researches think that it’s caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain. This mood disorders affects millions of Americans every year. Two to three million American adults have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Many of them do not know that even have it. The National Institute of Mental Health estimates that one in every one hundred people will develop the disorder and it strikes women and men equally and people of all ages and race. There are two types of bipolar disorder: Bipolar I and Bipolar II. People with Bipolar I go through cycles of major depression and mania. Bipolar II is similar, except that people have hypomanic episodes, a milder form of mania. People in a manic or hypomanic state feel euphoric. They also may be very creative during this time, writing poetry, thinking of new ideas, and starting new projects. But as episodes continue, manic or hypomanic people may not be able to carry out their creative ideas. Their high-energy moods may lead them to jump from task to task. Ideas may race through their heads so fast that they are not able to comprehend them thoroughly or focus. They may not be able to sit still long enough to finish a project. Also people who are in a manic phase may also become enraged if they can’t do what they want to do or if there is a problem that arises. They can’t judge what’s Important.
