happen to Terri, but, to this day, she remains in a chronic state of “vegetation” and remains on a feeding tube. Although she appears to be unconscious, she is alive and capable of human emotions, such as crying and smiling (Wallis). So why do people believe that Terri should be euthanized? Her parents and husband are in a heated debate on whether or not to stop the feeding tube given to her. Because Terri cannot articulate words, she has no say over her own life; therefore the choice of death is up to her family (Wallis).
The “right to die” movement says that she is too disabled as a human and euthanasia is the best decision for Terri. This decision is wrong. Many disability organizations say that this is not a life or death issue, but more importantly, Terri is surrounded by disability rights issues (National). She is still alive, and there is a reason that the incident didn’t kill her in 1990. She is still on this earth and is stricken with a disability that people are quick to make a “life or death” situation. Since Terri did not sign a living will, which states a person’s wishes if he or she were to become incapable of speaking, whether or not Terri lives is a feuding family issue and a nation wide court crisis (Honey).
