Science or Just Imagination?
Science fiction books, movies, and television series captivate audiences with how the “science” is portrayed. However, some of this “science” goes against real science, as we know it. This can be shown in the “Star Wars” movies. Certain areas of the “science” are not possible according to the modern laws of science.
One instance of faulty science is the Jedi light sabre. What keeps the beam contained into a sabre? We know that there must be a mechanism to stop it but nothing is shown. According to science light does not must stop it will continue until something is in its way. So what makes it stop?
Now the Imperial Death Star also has some faulty science. The Death Star is the size of a small moon. Even though it is this small size it can destroy a planet. What gives it this power? We know that in order to destroy a planet, the power needed would have to be able to breach through to the core. After it is through to the core it must heat up the core to cause it to explode out through the surface. The energy to do this is tremendous. How would it be possible for a station the size of a small moon to generate this kind of power?
The ships in these movies also have faulty science. The ships are able to achieve near light-speed velocities. According to Einstein, as you approach the speed of light you would gain mass. Yet these ships are able to do it almost instantaneously? That is just not possible. Since it takes a certain amount of time to accelerate up to this velocity, it should also take the same amount of time to decelerate back to their original velocity. However, this is not the case in these movies. In these movies these ships are practically able to, as we say, “stop on a dime.” One last thing about deceleration and acceleration of the ships and that is momentum. In these movies you do not see the people become thrown forward when the ship decelerat...
