This is where Religious pluralism comes into play. Religious pluralism contains an ambiguous definition, but it can be roughly defined as a view of religious traditions which allows respect for different religions based on the ideas that they hold in common. Thus, under religious pluralism, one does not necessarily have to face the question of which one is the right one, but instead can view religions on the idea of what are they all saying? Religious pluralism allows one to ignore the differences between two religions and focus instead on the beliefs that they hold in common. It is an idea that promotes understanding between different faiths rather than the conflict that has arisen so often in history.
Within religious pluralism, however, there are still two different viewpoints known as exclusivist and inclusivist. An exclusivist will view his own faith as the only true religion. Other faiths, therefore, are considered as having some elements of truth in them (considered the things they have in common with one’s own religion), however they are still considered mostly false or wrong. An inclusivist, like an exclusivist, will also view his own faith as the one true religion. However, an inclusivist, unlike an exclusivist, will view other religions as reflecting aspects of the “truth” of that one true religion.
