ones, thus causing them to become truly alive. This can be interpreted in two different ways.
The first of the two interpretations deals with the preconceived notion of the chosen. It is commonly believed throughout some Christian denominations that from the very beginning God chose those that are the “saved” and those that are the “damned.” Those that accept this theory believe that from the beginning of time, even before man came into existence, God knew of each and every one of us, and already had chosen our fate as to whether or not we would lead a holy life thus joining him in the rapture at the end of time. He had also supposedly chosen those who are considered to be damned; those who will basically live their lives in vain with no hope of salvation. Parallel to this theory is the occurrence of Aslan breathing the gift of speech into the chosen animals. By granting this gift to some animals over others, Aslan is indicating his selection as to who the chosen are, and who the damned are.
The second possible interpretation to this breath of life and speech that Aslan imparted to select animals is that the animals that are chosen suddenly take on a form similar to that of humans- not in a physical sense, but in the sense of intellectual functioning and responsibilities.
