The way in which I have experienced and viewed grief is as an emotional reaction to loss. Grief can include deep sorrow that is breathtakingly painful. It can be a dull, constant ache that seems to never go away. Grief is sudden and sharp or slow and agonizing. It can come in waves and may be of such intensity that sufferers may question their abilities to withstand it. It may also leave individuals with thoughts of emptiness questioning whether or not life is worth living.
Symptoms of Grief
Worden (2002) has suggested that grief consist of four dimensions: feelings, which include sadness, anger, quilt and reproach, anxiety, loneliness, fatigue, helplessness, shock, numbness and emancipation physical sensations. Physical sensations include hollowness in the stomach, tightness in the chest and throat, oversensitivity to noise a sense of depersonalization shortness of breath, muscle weakness, lack of energy and dry mouth.
