This constant feeling of low self-esteem can lead to many other dangerous physical effects like loss of appetite, loss of weight, and drug and alcohol abuse. All of these side effects are very dangerous and are direct results of depression as well as low self-esteem.
Isolation is an extremely common effect of depression and is also very dangerous. (Gaffron, 77). When somebody dies, the loves ones who are grieving because of their death feel like the deceased left them all alone in the world with nobody to care for them. The feeling of isolation is even worse when the loved one who has passed on in a parent. When Jill Krementz, author of How It Feels When A Parent Dies, interviewed eighteen children who had lost a parent, more than one had said that it was embarrassing to go back to school because they felt as if they were in a world of their own. ¡§Often a child whose parent has died doesn¡¦t know anyone else this has happened to, and feels particularly isolated and ¡¥special¡¦ in a very distressing way.¡¨ (Gaffron, 77).
When someone is depressed, usually it is because they are grieving for their loss of a loved one. ¡§Grief¡Kis a process, one that moves from denial and avoidance to recognition and acceptance of loss.¡¨( Dudley, 131). Bill Bradley, author of Endings, wrote in his book, ¡§When you feel grief, it isn¡¦t for the dead person, it¡¦s for your own loss and loneliness.¡¨ (Gaffron, 70).
According to Patricia Anderson, a writer and television producer, there are four stages of grief, initial shock and denial, searching, despair, and acceptance. (Dubley, 131). Initial shock and denial is more common in sudden death because you are not expecting it and not prepared to deal with the loss.
