the culture of violence, which dominated much of America’s development periods: the incident of Wounded Knee where Native Americans where innocently slaughtered, slave labor of Chinese immigrants during the Western Expansion and railroad construction. The Ku Klux Klan is another important part of history selectively ignored; thus decades of lynichings, burnings, and rapes of African Americans. It was such atrocities which ushered in the 20th Century, a period now refered to as "The American Century”. It is upon this historical foundation which American society today rests, one where violence is an accepted factor- a foundation of which our youth are utilizing for survival.
