s type of lobbying used by the NRA was the attempt to change its image from pro-gun to anticrime, the NRA formed CrimeStrike in 1991, which actually was formed by the NRA Institute for Legislative Action (NRA-ILA). The NRA-ILA is “the people’s voice” in Washington, D.C owned by the NRA. They maintain government affairs staff in Washington to represent gun owners throughout the United States. "It's frightening how effective CrimeStrike has been," [2]. By arranging well-funded efforts to lengthen prison sentences and build new prisons, “CrimeStrike has effectively served for the voters that profit from an expanded crime-control and prison industry.” [2] CrimeStrike had its first victory in November 1993 when it backed Washington State's "Three Strikes and You're Out" proposal. The NRA provided $50,000 that enabled the local benefactor to place the initiative on the ballot.
