Resulting from the accident, Ms. Healy sustained a fractured skull, three broken ribs, a punctured lung, and numerous deep facial lacerations. Ms. Healy was hospitalized for six weeks following the accident. Although she has already undergone three plastic surgeries to improver her facial cuts, she will need to have at least two more surgeries in the future. Her facial scars will be noticeable for the rest of her life.
Prior to her accident, Ms. Healy was a successful public relations specialist at Mahaffey & Co. Her annual salary was $55,000.00, plus she received generous health and retirement benefits. She was promised by the President of the company that she would be receiving a promotion to Assistant Vice-President within the next four months. With that promotion, her salary would have increased $15,000.00 annually. Due to the accident that occurred, Ms. Healy is no longer able to make public appearance, which is a critical aspect of her job. Mahaffey & Co. decided to terminate Ms. Healy’s employment because they felt she could no longer perform the duties required by her job.
