Capital Punishment
Capital punishment is one of the most controversial issues. It is very controversial due to its severity and irrevocability. Many argue that the death penalty is immoral and cruel. On the contrary, others believe that it is a necessary evil in order to show how precious an innocent life is. Life is a precious gift from God. Even when a person has no material
possessions, life is still possessed. In light of this observation, it is logical to assume that murder; unlawful killing of someone with malice is the most depraved crime of all. By sentencing murderers to death, pro-death penalty supporters feel that this will have a major influence on deterring future murderers from killing. Those who oppose capital punishment avidly believe that such a severe sanction will result in an increase of murders. Though there are many objections to capital punishment, sanctions for murderers should match their crime. The most depraved crime of all; murder should be punished by the most definitive means, death.
Death certainly is final. Many lives are destroyed by it everyday. There are the innocent victims, and their convicted murderers. Execution is very ruthless, but necessary. For example, convicted murderer Scott Peterson was recently sentenced to die for the double murder of his 8-month pregnant wife Laci, and unborn son Connor. It was speculated that Peterson drowned his pregnant wife in their pool, and then dumped her body into the San Francisco Bay. Laci’s severely decomposed body was found decapitated and limbless. Laci was unable to be buried holding her child. Connor’s infant body washed ashore with plastic tape wrapped around his neck. Although his body wasn’t decomposed, the right side of his body was mutilated, and the placenta and umbilical cord were not found with the body.
