the city-states, most of all Thessaly, which had already broken away from the League. I knew I must show power and that I did. I rounded up 30,000 of my closest friends (also known as troops) and headed for the Southern region. I planned on making this attack a surprise, and that I did! When we bombarded the Thessalians they were in complete surprise. They had no time to prepare for war, so instead of getting their butts handed to them on a silver platter, they didn’t even bother to resist us. (Wepman, 41) This event had put me off to a great start as king.
Now that the league was back in full force, and I had enough troops to take over the world (hypothetically speaking), I became power hungry. My first attack was against Persia. I already knew that not many people would put up a fight. However as my troops and me marched northward towards the Danube River, on my conquest of Persia, I was in a narrow pass in the mountains when I was confronted by a local tribesman. I had engaged in battle once before with them and knew their strategy; they were going to roll wagons down the sides of the cliff and crush my army. However, being the quick thinker I am, I sent all the wagons through the pass first, and my men on foot second. I instructed all the soldiers that would not make it through the pass before the attack struck us, to lay down and cover themselves with their shields so that the wagons would roll over them, and the spears would not penetrate them. Thanks to my quick thinking, and expert leadership I lost not one, that’s right ZERO, troop. We did however defeat all 1500 Thracian soldiers. Now the path to the Danube River was clear for us. My next obstacle was one not of war but one against Mother Nature. For my troops had never seen such a large, wide, swift river as the Danube. Of course once we defeated the river there was another tribe, the Getae, waiting on the other side. This tribe felt safe...
