Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD’s)- what are they? Many people have heard of STD’s, but do they really know what they are and the impact they can have on their lives? This report will state the different types of STD’s, their affects on the body and who are at risk of catching an STD.
STD’s are alive and deadly. I am interested in this topic because I have heard a lot about STD’s and some ways that you can get them, but I don’t know the specifics of how risky they are and what they can do to my body.
Sexually transmitted diseases, or STDs, are infections that can be transferred from one person to another through sexual contact. Sexually transmitted diseases have probably been around for thousands of years, but the most worrisome, AIDS, and has only been recognized since 1984. It is important to realize that sexual contact includes more than just sexual intercourse. Sexual contact includes kissing, oral-genital contact, and the use of sexual "toys," such as vibrators.
Most sexually transmitted diseases are treatable. However, even the once easily cured gonorrhea has become resistant to many of the older traditional antibiotics. Other STDs, such as herpes, AIDS, and genital warts, all of which are caused by viruses, have no cure. Some of these infections are very uncomfortable, while others can be deadly. Syphilis, AIDS, genital warts, herpes, hepatitis, and even gonorrhea have all been known to cause death.
