Euthanasia
Currently in the United States, Euthanasia is illegal. “ Aside from the Oregon Law, euthanasia is illegal in the United States and is considered a form of homicide, even though the motive may be merciful rather than malevolent” [www.radiology.com]. I want to amend this law because I feel it should be available to those who request it. Euthanasia is the intentional killing of oneself usually due to severe illness and unbearable pain. Everyone is entitled to his/her rights and I feel one has the right to choose between life and death, which is provided for us by 14th Amendment. The Constitution cannot deprive anyone of life or death. I feel it is unconstitutional to take this right away from a citizen. Section 1. All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State will make or enforce any law, which will abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor will any States deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within it jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws. I feel Euthanasia shouldn’t just be limited to those who are terminally ill but also those who bear pain and suffering. I believe the families of the brain dead should be granted the right to make a decision on behalf of the ill choosing whether to live or die. A true story of a family I knew, they had a baby two years ago and following the birth, there was new problems with the baby each month. The baby developed diabetes and many other illnesses that caused her to become blind and unfortunately the baby went into a coma. The baby went brain dead and they took her off life support. Once brain dead, you can never be revived, so why not put to an end to this suffering for both the baby and the family. It’s not the nicest way...
