In order to receive permanent disability benefits an employee must be assessed by the treating physician or a “Qualified Medical Evaluator” (Division par. 10). Injured workers who are unable to return to their former type of work are entitled to “vocational rehabilitation services if these services can reasonably expected to return the worker to suitable gainful employment; this includes the development of a suitable plan, the cost of any training, and a maintenance allowance while participating in rehabilitation” (Division par. 11). Vocational rehabilitation services are similar to temporary disability, in the ways that the injured worker is paid until he or she returns to work. Supplemental job displacement benefits is a nontransferable voucher for an employee to receive educational related training or skill enhancement or both; payable to a state-approved or accredited school. To qualify for this benefit an employee must be disabled from work for up to sixty days after temporary disability ends and the employer has not offered modified or alternative work.
