The Risk for Eating Fast Food
Most everyone who eats out is familiar with Jared, the man who claims to have lost three quarters of his body weight by eating what Subway wants us to believe is a balanced diet of fast food. In fact, this healthy image that Jared advertises is every fast food restaurant’s dream in terms of pulling in customers who are afraid of gaining weight. People want to believe that if we do as Jared does, we also will lose weight while actually eating fast food that is typically regarded as unhealthy. It is no secret that the fast food industry’s affect on society is an unhealthy one, but people aren’t aware of how unhealthy it is. Nor do we realize the dangers that go on beyond the counter that we never see.
Research has shown that diet of fast food affects the development of high blood pressure or hypertension. With the intake of foods saturated in cholesterol and fat, veins and arteries become clogged making it difficult for blood to pass through eventually leading to a fatal heart attack. Fast food venues might want to think about another investment; buying out hospitals, because the millions of people eating their way to the emergency room will need it. The invention of the drive thru allows customers to order their meals from the comfort of their car, never having to move a muscle, except for the action it takes to roll down the window. This life style is excessively unhealthy in that not only is there ingestion of unwholesome food, but there is no exercise to combat these calories.
