Title: Why I am Vegan.
Thesis: A Vegan diet is the best choice for human health, a clean environment, and to express compassion towards animal welfare.
I. I care about the quality of human life through to a Vegan diet.
A. Meat, dairy, and egg products are bad for human consumption.
1. They contain no fiber or complex carbohydrates, and are full of saturated fat and cholesterol.
2. Short-term consumption will likely lead to weight gain and little to no energy.
3. Long-term consumption can cause heart disease, cancer, high blood pressure, and other ailments.
B. Veganism gives me a different relationship to the food I eat than most others.
1. It forces me consider where it came from and it’s effects on my body.
II. The best thing I can do for the environment is to adopt a Vegan life style.
A. Mass produced foods waste fossil fuels and pollute the air.
1. A huge amount of fossil fuels produced in the U.S. are used to farm animals for food.
2. Fossil fuels are used to grow grain for feed, transport feed to factory farms, transport animals to slaughter houses, transport dead carcasses to processing plants, run the machines to process the meat, and then transport the product to distribution agencies.
3. Energy through the burning of fossil fuels leads to serious air pollution.
B. Factory farming destroys the well being of the land.
1. Factories do not have waste treatment plants so all the manure and byproducts seeps into the topsoil making it unusable.
2. Run off seeps into our water table contaminating our water source with hormones and antibiotics.
III. My compassion towards animal welfare means that I can have a clear conscience when I eat.
A. Animals used for mass consumption lead painful and unnatural lives from birth to death.
1. The usage of hormones leads to defects in limbs, organs, and other body functions.
