The term’s health and physical activity have similar definitions with relation to how our society uses them. The word health is defined by the Webster’s New World Dictionary as, “Physical and mental well-being, freedom from disease, pain or defect”. Some people would interpret this definition as being the quality of life and the way to achieve this is through physical activity. Physical activity is described in the Physical Education and Sport by Angela Lumpkin as, “all movements that can contribute to improved health”. Quality of life is determined differently for each individual. However, the two factors, happiness and faith are the ideal components that help maintain good health that includes physical activity, which enables a person to achieve the true quality of life. Health and physical activity contribute to quality of life by enhancing a person’s happiness. Many people feel that winning the lottery and having lots of money will bring upon happiness. Sure money is essential and might make a person happy for a while; but what happens when the money runs out. True happiness is more of an ongoing quality. For example, engaging in physical activity helps a person to stay fit which might help them to live longer. This allows more time spent to be with their loved ones. In addition, it gives the person a purpose in life: working towards this goal would not bring them happiness; it is happiness. Keep in mind the basics of happiness, eating right and getting enough sleep. This will allow a person to work towards the things that provide lasting fulfillment. Everyone wants to be happy but feel that it is an impossible thing to possess. The truth of that matter is, many of us are happy but we just do not know it. Faith is a large contribution in my quality of life. I feel at ease knowing that I can rely on God when I am facing adversity.
