TENSIONS DURING THE 1950’S AND 1960’S
Introduction: In the period from the 1950’s through the 1960’s the United States experienced an extensive amount of tension with Russia, and Cuba. They also experienced political, and social tensions with in the country. Tensions such as, civil rights, women’s rights, the Vietnam war, Generation gap, and anti-communism hysteria. Pressures such as; these shaped the American society and rose a new standard for Americans.
I. Turmoil with Russia and the Cold War
A. Russia shot down an American spy plane (U2)
B. Berlin was divided into two zones
C. Russia set up blockades in Berlin against the U.S.
D. U.S., France, and Britain felt Russia should be contained
E. Russia made an atomic bomb to scare the U.S.
F. Russia creates hydrogen bombs
G. America lived in fear of Russia using nuclear weapons toward them
H. North Korea (communist) invaded South Korea (was under U.S. care)
II. The United States starts trouble with Cuba
