Imprinted on currency of the United States it states, “In God We Trust”. If this were so, why do man-made laws tend to play “God” so often? The “Second Law” Moses Final Words states, “And your eyes shall not pity; but life shall go for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot” (Kings James Bible, Deuteronomy 19:21). This statement was written in the Old Testament, which was revised once the New Testament became law. In the New Testament in the Books of Luke 6:29-35, it states of turning the other cheek when someone has committed a sin against you. The United States is one of the few countries left in the world to practice the savage and immoral punishment of death.
Politicians and local states government officials argue that the consequences of death prevent people from committing the crime of murder. It is proven that the death penalty does not deter persons from committing murder, nor does it serve as an example of the consequence of capital crimes to society considering the fact that every state in the United States has different laws concerning the execution of person committing capital crimes. The methods of execution, in front of witnesses, are horrifying and barbaric, as well as devaluing to human life. An indecent justice, one that takes human life based on the ideals of vengeance and violence is no different that if someone as an individual did the crime or if the crime was permitted to become legal by state and governmental laws.
“Against the Death Penalty” by Richard Dieter states the most widely used argument in support of capital punishment is that the consequences of execution influences criminal behavior more effectively than imprisonment does.
