as various groups take credit for orchestrated attacks on American Embassies, and military ships worldwide. America is not the only nation that has to deal with terrorism. The problem is so wide spread that the United Nations has been asked to sanction the use of force in locating and prosecuting not only members of the terrorist groups but also any government that harbors them. One president addressed the UN about the problems every nation on earth currently face when he said: “The causes of terrorism have made the world "a kingdom of injustice, poverty and inequality.” The only path to peace was through justice," he said, "the world' s leaders must resolve to acknowledge that the current economic situation acted as fuel for the fires of terrorism(Whitaker, 2001)."
Until recently terrorists were considered more of a political pest than any real threat. They would plan attacks and would damage property and occasionally claim a life in their quest for attention, but by and large they were considered to be a nuisance on the large scale of things. The last two decades have seen a metamorphic change when it comes to terrorists and that change has created a worldwide focus on getting them stopped.
Four decades ago children had bomb drills in their classrooms(Westphal, 2002). They were required to huddle under their desks and cover their heads so that if a bomb ever was dropped they could remain safe. Those drills were discontinued during the cold war but today there is a bigger threat, the threat of biological and chemical warfare as well as nuclear attacks. According to the government of the US the threat is back.
