One June 28th a membr of the revolutionry group, the Black Hand, assassinated the archduke of Austria, Francis Ferdinand, a month later Austria declared war on Serbia. Kaiser William II of Germany Gave his strong support to Austria and Russia supported Serbia. Europe then plunged into the war to end all wars, the battles raged all over Europe from 1914 to 1918. Countries from all over the world were involed including the United States. When the germany people no longer had food to eat they revolted and Germany called for an armistice. On the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month of 1918 the fighting stoped and peace talks were on the way. The allies had many losses from the war and they deicded to take it out on Germany. The president of the United States, Woodrow Wilson, presented the allies with the fourteen points which placed the blame for the war on no one, but this didn't please the allies. Fraca had lost many young men and most of it’s land was destroyed. And Britain had many widows to pay off as well. So in june 1919 the allies represenitives from the German government to the city of Versailles and presented the Treaty of Versailles. Even though Wilson wanted to end all hostile feelings in Europe, the Treay of Versailles was vengeful on Germany and planted the seeds for the next world war.
When the Allies wrote the Treaty , they wanted to make sure Germany would not be a threat again. One of these conditions was the disarmerment of the Germany navy. They had to scuddle all thhier battleships but seven of the oldest, outdated boats. Artical 181 of the treaty states “After the expiration of a period of two months from the coming into force of the
present Treaty the German naval forces in commission must not exceed: 6 battleships of the Deutschland or Lothringen type, 6 light cruisers, 12 destroyers, 12 torpedo boats, No submarines are to be included”(The Versailles Treaty: artical 181). Al...
