Cause and Effect Essay: War in Iraq
The terrorist acts on September eleventh, cause the United States government to change its foreign policies. The Busch administration was compelled to adapt a new doctrine of pre-emptive strikes against any nation that harbor terrorists and gives terrorist a safe haven in their country in which to operate and conduct terror against the United States. United States government as with any sovereign country has the right to protect its citizens at all cost including going to war with any nation that harbor terrorists.
The cease-fire that was agreed upon to end the first gulf war in 1991 was for Saddam Hussein to get reed of weapons of mass destruction and stop his relentless pursue for nuclear weapons. Saddam refused to cooperate with the United Nations. For twelve years, Saddam played a cat and mouse game with the United Nations. Saddam had people moved and hiding his chemical, biological weapons, and the development of his nuclear program. In 1998, Saddam kicked the U.N. inspectors out of Iraq refusing to comply with the U.N. resolution.
For years, Saddam Hussein has been mistreated the citizens of Iraq. Since Saddam took over the country in 1976, he has ruled its citizens with an iron fist. Under his Iraq had become a totalitarian state. The people have no right or any choosing of any government official. Any one who is not in accord with regime was quickly brought to submission by with any means. All rebellion people were tortured, killed or forced to watch their family members suffer the consequences of their rebellion. Hence through the war, the United States government never failed to mention that they are not at war with the Iraqi people, but with the regime of Saddam Hussein. The armed forces go to great length to protect and prevent Iraqi people from suffering mass casualty.
