The law was put into effect to protect the public but it raised issues on whether or not it is violating the rights of sex offenders. Some people think that they are being prosecuted twice for their crime.
According to a recent opinion poll at Defiance High School 97% of the, faculty and students agreed that people should be notified by the authorities if a child molester is in your neighborhood.
“ Yes, you should be notified because if you have kids there are certain precautions you might want to take to make sure your kids are safe,” said junior India Hall.
“Yes! If I had children the last thing I would want would be to have a neighbor I thought I could trust turn out to be the one person that really can’t trust around my kids,” said Subway employee Michelle Castio.
There are a few people out there that do not agree with Megan’s law for some reasons that make some sense. A recent graduate of Defiance High School , Monica Ortiz, knew of a boy who was being sexually assaulted by his mother. His mother at the time had a very serious problem, and she realized this when her son told her about what she was doing to him and how it made him feel about her and about himself. His mother

got help for her problem and she never hurt her son again. But it was a small town and it had already spread around about what was happening so they had to move. Monica feels that the mother truly meant was she said about not hurting her son again. She felt that Megan’s law would just have made the situation worse for the mother and even more so for the son because of all things that might be said to him at his new home.
