If someone does nothing but sit on the couch and watch television all day, they are considered to be a couch potato. The one thing that couch potatoes are really good at is synthesizing things into their head. It is easy for them to do this because they do not have to think much and it requires no effort. Analyzing something is almost the complete opposite. You have to actually think and use some effort. In this paper, I will be talking about synthesis and analyzing.
When someone is just sitting down and watching television, they are synthesizing all of the information into their head. The medium is sending the messages from the programs that are being synthesized. Some of the most synthesized shows on television are sitcoms, cartoons, and soap operas. There are a lot of actions and conversations in them and they are basically designed to entertain you or try to make you laugh. For example, cartoons are just animated characters that move around a lot and do a lot of actions to try and make you laugh. You do not learn anything from them and they do you no good. Most sitcoms are just shows with a lot of jokes and humor aimed to try and make you laugh. Soap operas are shows that try to get you emotionally attached to their show so that you can become addicted to it. There are a lot of people who are addicted to soap operas and can never miss an episode. All of the programs aired on television are in competition with each other to try and see who can entertain the audience the most and get the most ratings.
One of the most synthesized programs that goes through the television set are games. Kids love to sit in front of the television sets and synthesize their playstation games for hours and hours. Video games are all just a waste of time and money. You can learn absolutely nothing from them except how to play the game.
