Many good films have been made about the American/Vietnamese conflict from the movie Apocalypse Now’ too many serious documentaries about the harsh reality of the war. We Were Soldiers’ is not one of them. It is not one of them because it does not just show the killing and all of the more grotesque parts of war. This movie portrays friendship, love and the sacrifices that American soldiers make for their country. This Movie is a true story and many of the men involved in this battle are still alive today. What makes this move different from many other movies about the war in Vietnam is the input that the men who fought this battle had in the making of the movie. Also the wives of the soldiers had a lot of input into the scenes that involved them and their families. Lutenant. colonel Hal Moore (not Mel Gibson) said that this movie is the only movie that he has seen about the war in Vietnam that portrays actual factional events, and is not just some attempt to bring in rating at the box office with elaborate special effects and more death than love and friendships.
The conflict in Vietnam is looming and the U.S. is about to get involved in some heavy combat and casualties are imminent. Mel Gibson leads the very first group of some four hundred American men into a hot zone where two thousand North Vietnamese soldiers are waiting. What follows are intense firefights and the realizations of love, devotion, admiration and friendship for all Americans involved.
The scene I choose is an intimate exchange between two men. This particularly emotional scene begins with the camera showing a pile of blood soaked bandages and other used medical items that have been discarded and left on the ground. The camera then begins to move up over the bandages this is where we begin to see one of the soldiers.
