Movie Analysis: Remember the Titans
The movie that I chose to view was Remember the Titans, a movie that shows the how racism and hatred can be overcome when you look inside a person and not at their appearance on the outside. I chose this move for a few reasons, the number one reason probably being that it is a movie that I own, other reasons being that I enjoy the movie and it has something to say about the history of our nation and how we got to where we are today even though it can still be improved upon. The movie conveys a strong theme that, I think, just about anyone can relate to. The movie puts a lot of things into perspective, such as racism, inequality issues, and how one individual or group of individuals can make a big change in society as we know it.
One thing that caught my eye while watching this movie is the way the director had many of the scenes played out. In particular how the team had all kinds of problems until they were isolated and had to depend on each other to make it through football camp. The way the characters were depicted through sadness, anger, and joy made it easy to relate to them and have a sense of how they were feeling at that particular moment. It got to the point where I had my own opinions of the players because I felt as if I knew them.
This movie had me thinking about my past and how I have had to overcome being part of a greatly adverse group of people and become one cohesive unit with the same intentions. How hard it must have been for them is another thing that came to mind especially in that day and age. Whites had their minds made up about blacks and they wouldn’t even give a black man the time of day to explain him or herself. This made me feel badly for the boys on the team, especially when they came back from football camp where they set there differences aside and became the greatest of friends.
