The movie The Sixth Sense, directed and written by M. Night Shyamalan, is a chilling psychological thriller. The story is about a troubled life of eight-year-old Cole Sear, who is haunted by his supernatural abilities to see and communicate with the dead. Growing more isolated from his helpless mother and distrustful of his peers in school, Cole soon encounters child psychologist Dr. Malcolm Crowe, who tries to uncover the ominous truth about Cole’s supernatural abilities. The movie was successful in many ways, such as; great story, great actors, graphic effects (theme and symbols) and engaging horror mystery.
Part thriller, part love story, part horror, The Sixth Sense is a voyage of self-discovery, learning to communicate, and understanding one’s own perception, as experienced by the two protagonists, Malcolm Crowe (Bruce Willis) and Cole Sear (Haley Joel Osment). M. Night Shyamalan wrote this script to subtly examine the effects of alienation, the bonds of relationships and the inability to communicate in modern society.
The story follows a child psychologist, Malcolm Crowe, incredible played by Bruce Willis, who tries to help an alienated and sullen young boy (Haley Joel Osment). Crowe had been shot by a patient that he was unable to help and has been second-guessing himself ever since. Crowe distances himself from his beautiful wife. He watches almost impersonally as his marriage disintegrates. He is torn between saving his marriage and helping the boy. Both are important to him and he deeply feels that he cannot do both, that his two goals are mutually exclusive. The young boy, Cole, is extremely introverted. He is bright and should be a popular boy but all of his classmates, teachers and just about everyone in his life thinks of him as a freak. He is consumed by his dark thoughts.
