DIAL M FOR MURDER (1954)
I have seen the movie dial M for murder. The movie was really interesting, because I have never looked at a movie that old and like it except for “The sound of music.” The movie is an Alfred Hitchcock production. Tony Wendice (Ray Milland) plays the husband, who plots to murder his wife; Margo (Grace Kelly) is a former tennis pro who he married for her money. Mark (Robert Cummings) the American writer, Swan (Anthony Dawson) is the murderer. The marriage appears completely devoid of passion- the film’s opening shot shows this perfectly, as the camera moves around a completely static, lifeless kiss between the pair- and it comes as no surprise to find out Margo was seeing some one on the side.
Tony is disturbed by the affair, but not for emotional reason; indeed he seems to be creature almost utterly devoid of emotion. He is more concerned with the prospect that his wife would leave him penniless, so plot her murder in inherit her fortune. He blithely sends Margo out for the evening with her lover, he then invites Swann to his apartment under false pretenses, and reveals the plan to murder his wife. Swann and Tony came from a similar background (they both went to Cambridge). Swann accept and plans to murder Margo for a sum of money, while Tony and Mark went to a social function and Margo is home alone. Swann will break into the apartment at a few minutes before 11:00 P.M and wait for Tony to phone Margo.
When the phone rings Margo will answer it with her back to the curtain behind which Swann lunges at her. As the struggles proceeds it is clear that Swann does not have complete physical control over Margo, she manages to face him and he attempts to strangle her they fell across the desk, with Swann on the top of her. Margo desperately reaches for the scissors that she knows is on the desk; she grabs the scissors and drives it into Swann’s back. He writhes in agony before finally ...
