“The Osbournes” is a reality based television show that is aired on the Music Television (MTV) channel. It follows the unusual family of Ozzy Osbourne, along with his wife Sharon, daughter Kelly, and son Jack. They have another daughter, Aimee, but she doesn’t partake in the show. As her mom, Sharon says, “She can't handle being around us lunatics all day while she's trying to start her career!(www.mtv.com)" The way they act is a normal part of their lifestyle, but to the average American public it is considered wrong. The Osbournes lifestyle doesn’t fit the normal white American lifestyle as it is usually portrayed on television; their family life, parental and child behavior, and life situations aren’t what you would expect of the public.
The Osbournes don‘t fit the description of an All American White Family, their vocabulary is mainly made up of obscene language. The typical white family does not communicate with each other in that way. Comparing the Osbournes to the Camden family of the TV show “Seventh Heaven”, you could clearly see how a white family should and is expected to be portrayed. The Camden family would never use the profane language that is used more often than please and thank you in the Osbourne household. Their lifestyle compared to the Osbournes’ lifestyle is very different, usually sitcom families try to teach morals to their viewers. With the falling economy of the USA one of the most important lessons being taught by sitcom families is money management, as usual the Osbournes beg to differ. In an article, Kelly said that when she and her mom go shopping that they just buy anything they see and don’t even end up using it. Typically white families manage their money somehow and they don’t just buy anything. Yes they are celebrities and have a lot of money but they aren’t portraying the white race correctly.
