Producing a children’s video
How does one produce a children’s video? Try to visualize a concept on how you
would complete such a task. Sounds easy to produce a children’s video, at least that is
what I thought when I started seven years ago.
First you need a great idea and preferably passion. My idea came when I was
training to be a helicopter pilot a few years ago, and when I began to run out of money to
continue flight school, I noticed a construction video for children being marketed with
great success and I thought why can’t I do the same with a helicopter video? One thing
lead to another and my passion for helicopters evolved into an idea for a an educational,
and entertaining video for children.
The next thing you need to determine is a concept for the video. Do you want to make
a documentary or a story? I determined there are enough boring documentaries about
helicopters, and I wanted to create a story that would inspire, entertain and educate
children about the evolution of helicopters. I wrote a script and it has been revised at
least 20 times from inception due to the fact that I was constantly changing characters
that would appeal to children and their imagination. And after several trials and errors, I
came up with the concept of “Helicopter Harry and the Copter Kids Whirlybird
Adventures.”
Briefly, the story itself is about a boy and a girl that walk onto a heliport and ask
Helicopter Harry to teach them about helicopters. Helicopter Harry agrees, and takes
them on a journey like none other. Helicopter Harry begins the adventure with Leonardo
Da Vinci’s first design of the helicopter 500 years ago. Helicopter Harry explains how
Da Vinci studied animals and insects like the dragonfly, birds and pterodactyls,
to fashion his first helicopter. Can you imagine the helicopter being fashioned 500 ...
