Artificial Intelligence Tragic Hero

When we mention the word HERO, people automatically think of “a superhero, an unnatural phenomenon that saves the world”, but in the case of the movie: Artificial Intelligence, directed by Steven Spielberg. Our “Hero” in this movie, or Tragic Hero, is a little robot boy named David, played by Haley Joel Osmoent. David, is a robot in search of his dreams of becoming a real boy, but the failure of fulfilling his dream is what makes him, the tragic hero of the movie.
A tragic hero, is the character in the movie or book that creates a certain emotion in the audience, they make you feel compenetrated with them, and poignantly they transmit you their feelings through their actions. David, is this robot created by cientists that have programmed him to love, dream and care about others, just like a normal blithe boy. Although some people may show some apathy towards robots, some people think of them as real humans.The character played by Haley Joel, is a clear example of a true tragic hero, not only because he saves himself, but also because he had the power to save the happiness of the family that had bought him. This family had suffered the sickness of their only child putting him in a comma, forcing them to buy David as a replacement of their child. They learn to love him, and so does he.
David is not what you may say, a villain, as the robot he is, he wasn’t taught to hate people. I say that David is the tragic hero of the story because he saves himself in a way, but also he suffers a terrible downfall. In his search of being a real boy, he discovers terrible truths about what he really is, he is able to see that he was created by machines, and that the dream of being a real boy is unreachable. I believe that David was doggedly to make them happen.
