By the age of thirteen Joan started to see visions of Saint Margaret, Saint Catherine, and Saint Michael. Not only could she see them but she also heard them talking to her. She remembered these saints from her childhood church, where she would pray to them. Many who heard about her thought that she was a witch and wondered why the saints were talking to her. Joan said that the saints were telling her to lead the French to their victory against the English and take the Dauphin, Charles VI’s son, where he would be crowned the true king of France (Awesome Stories ).
Around 1429, Joan had a letter written to the Dauphin, because she could not read or write. The letter stated that she wanted to lead the French army against the English. It also said that she was hearing voices from saints that were messages from God. When the Dauphin first got the letter his advisors were not sure if he should meet Joan. They thought that she was some kind of witch that wanted to hurt the Dauphin. However when Joan wrote another letter stating events that occurred at a war before she was born, thats when he knew that she might be telling the truth. The Dauphin wanted to meet Joan so he ordered for her to come to Chinon where he had his court. The trip for Joan and her escorts was about eleven days.
