l our schools to teach character education, to teach good values and good citizenship. If it means that teenagers will stop killing each other over designer jackets, then our public school should be able to require students to wear uniforms.
Three months later, the U.S. Department of Education issued guidelines for school uniforms. Uniforms help to restore order and make the classrooms a safer environment to learn in. It allows students to focus more on their work and focus less on what they or their peers are wearing. This de-emphasis on clothes and styles aids educators in getting students to focus more on the curriculum.
Uniforms are also an effective way to bring all students to the same class level. Young children and adolescents should not have to be victimized by this class structure set up in our modern society. Students’ primary purpose is to learn and if they are under constant stress due to the enormous pressure to “fit in” then it could affect their ability to learn.
Uniforms will help to diminish the mockery children receive because of the
brands and style of dress that their parents are able to afford. No longer
will kids be taunted or ridiculed because their parents are unable to afford
the newest trend of clothing. Implementing
uniforms in public schools will strip students of their identity and creative natures. Many parents and students believe those students’ identities are being seized away from them when they are forced to wear uniforms. However, just because the students are dressed alike, it does not strip them of their individuality. Many people believe a person’s personality is reflected in the clothes they wear. Individuality, however, is held in one’s mind not in their clothing. Every person is capable of having different thought patterns that lead to various ideas. Clothing itself does not have any affect on individuality. Clothing is used to rebel or make a statement at times...
