We will get the information to current students through their vandal mail accounts. We will also have faculty talk to students about the policy this fall semester. It will also be put on the U of I website and if students want more info they can talk to their professors who will all be delivered a copy of the new policy in their faculty-staff handbooks.
B) Relationship Concerns
Current Students regard themselves as part of the university family. They believe they should have a say in any new changes that will affect them. They may have experienced different regulations they did not like in the past. They will likely go along with any changes because in the end they will have little choice. We fear there may be some backlash in the form of protests or perhaps legal action. The way we plan to deal with this is to explain the policy was changed in their best interest. We will explain that faculty members still have the power of grading discretion and may curve grades as they see fit.
C) Positive Emphasis
The worst part about our policy for the current students is the increased work load and the fact that in the first couple of semesters many students may have a problem adjusting to the new policy. The current students are most likely going to complain to the faculty but we anticipate that this will be about all that happens. It's our goal to make the current students feel that this policy is to their benefit. By setting a higher standard down the road hopefully the school will gain a more prestigious reputation that will make graduating from the U of I its own reward.
