USE OF H.M.T
It is a misnomer to say that use of H.M.T not only supplements NLC transportation recourses but also generates profit for it. This concept was true in the past but is no longer applicable now. With the increase dependence on H.M.T by NLC and its use by other organizations the restricted number of H.M.T contracts in the in time of need capitalized on the situation and demand increase in the contracted rates. Synopsis of casting and transportation study of previous 2 years show the following:

• NLC suffered a weighted average loss of Rs 0.09 per ton per k.m during oct 92 to march 93 as against to loss of Rs 0.01 per ton per k.m during corresponding period of last year i.e. fertilizer movement period

• There has been out of proportion increase in HMT contract rates.
