Globalization
Is globalization a good or a bad thing? Well I believe that it has it’s good parts, as
well as bad parts. Globalization is a word that is widely used by people today. The term
has come into common usage since the 1980s, reflecting technological advances that have
made it easier and quicker to complete international transaction, both trade and financial
flows. The term sometimes also refers to the movement of people (labor) and knowledge
(technology) across international borders. The good thing about globalization is that it
allows businesses to make more money, and increased international trade has made us
wealthier and allowed us to lead more diverse lifestyles. Also aggressive trade has made
people spend more money, living standards have risen and a growth in international travel
has taken place.
Globalization has promoted information exchange between the different countries,
and has led to a greater understanding of other cultures. I believe that this whole idea of
globalization is to link everyone in different parts of the world, so that we can all
understand each other. Therefore by conducting business with all the different countries, I
feel that English is becoming the universal language. I believe that all other countries want
to adopt the, “American way of life.” Think about it for a second, why are there
McDonalds restaurants in different countries? How come we don’t have big
establishments developed in another part of the world in the United States? People in
other countries are jealous of how we live, so they are starting to try to become one of us.
They want to eat the same foods, dress, watch the same television programs, and view
American movies like all of us in the United States. In, “ The Lexus and the Olive Tree,” I
read that people in South Teheran, which is the poorest neighborhood of the Iranian
