It Not What You Do; it how you do it
Work is defined as an activity in which one exerts strength or faculties to do or perform something: a: sustained physical or mental effort to overcome obstacles and achieve an objective or result b: the labor, task, or duty that is one's accustomed means of livelihood c: a specific task, duty, function, or assignment often being a part or phase of some larger activity, according to Webster dictionary. For most the nation working is a major part of life, not just at a nine to five job. People need to work on their own personal being and be able to provide meaning and purpose to their lives.
After interviewing several citizens I found that work is not the most desired word in their minds. After I spoke with each one for a few minutes they expressed happiness and pride regarding to their occupation. The people that I talked to about work were older and had worked a long time. They seemed proud of themselves for contributing to society and providing money for their families. Interestingly, the people I interviewed said that the occupation they went to five days a week wasn the hardest part of the day, but the preparation it took to get there. Everyday chores, getting the kids to school, keeping the house running, cooking, feeding and cleaning were the things that wore them out. That because all of the above are work as well.
Society has come to associate the work with something that is unpleasant, a necessary evil. But I think that it not so much the work itself as it is the whole struggle to live life the right way, be a good person, get things accomplished, growing up, and making something of ourselves. There is physical type of work as well as mental work. Both can be hard and rewarding. Some places may be harder and more intense as some citizens are harder to work with and work for.
