According to the same Washington times article a hacker would only need to crack into the U.S. Pacific Command in Honolulu and he/she could disable the U.S. power system, “causing a nationwide blackout” (Maier). Yet, there are other crimes other than war-based. For example, a hacker may take $10 dollars from a number of bank accounts; let’s say 20,000 accounts. This would amount to a total of $200,000 dollars. What is worse is that nobody would probably notice this money missing! In the movie “Hackers,” a hacker places a virus called a worm into a bank and it would take 10 cents from each bank transaction for one month, who would notice a loss of 10 cents? The amount of money he was going to get away with amount to 23.3 million dollars. Fortunately, in the movie, there were good hackers who turned the evil hacker in.
